Create and activate your Stripe account

Step-by-step guide to create your Stripe Connect account, complete KYC verification, and connect Salonnare for online payments, no-show fees and deposits.

Create and activate your Stripe account

With Stripe you accept online card payments, no-show fees via payment links, and deposits for online bookings. Stripe is required for no-shows and deposits - other providers do not support those flows.

Step 1: Create your Stripe account via Salonnare

You connect and create your Stripe account through the Stripe Connect onboarding in Salonnare. Salonnare automatically creates a Stripe Connect account for you:

  1. Log in to your salon dashboard.
  2. Go to Settings > Connect payments and find the Stripe card.
  3. Tick the platform-fee agreement -- only then does the Connect button become active.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. You are redirected to Stripe's onboarding flow. In the background, Salonnare creates a Stripe account for your salon.
  6. Fill in: Chamber of Commerce, IBAN, ID verification, articles of association (for a company).
  7. Finish the onboarding -- you are sent back to Salonnare.

Stripe verifies your details and activates your account. As long as Stripe has not enabled you yet, Salonnare shows the status Connected -- onboarding not completed.

Did you abandon the onboarding? Just click **Complete onboarding** on the Stripe card again to continue where you left off. Your account stays in place; no new account is created.

Step 2: Complete KYC verification

This is MANDATORY before Stripe pays out:

DocumentRequired forWhere to upload
Chamber of Commerce extractAll accountsStripe dashboard > Settings > Business details
IBAN accountPayoutsBank accounts
ID (passport/ID card)Personal verificationIdentity verification
VAT numberOptional - speeds up verificationTax info
Articles of association (company)Not for sole proprietorshipBusiness documents
Proof of address (utility bill)Sometimes requestedOn request

Stripe only requests some documents when they are needed. You go through most of the KYC directly in the onboarding flow.

In Salonnare you can see the progress on the Stripe card: as long as KYC is not done, the status stays at Connected -- onboarding not completed with the Complete onboarding button.

Step 3: Activate payment methods

In dashboard.stripe.com > Settings > Payment methods:

MethodRecommendedWhy
iDEALDefault for Dutch clients
Card / Credit cardInternational clients
BancontactBelgian clients
SEPA Direct DebitoptionalSubscriptions
Apple Pay / Google PayoptionalMobile checkout
KlarnaoptionalPay Later

Activate at least iDEAL + Card for the broadest coverage.

Recurring payments for memberships (SEPA Direct Debit)

If you want to charge memberships with a fixed amount per period via direct debit, Stripe uses SEPA Direct Debit plus Stripe Billing for subscription management. Activate SEPA Direct Debit in the list above for this.

These are the rates Stripe charges your salon for memberships with direct debit. You pay these on top of the regular transaction rates:

Cost itemStripe rate
SEPA Direct Debit (per successful debit)€ 0.35
Surcharge on currency conversion+ 2%
Stripe Billing (subscription management)0.7% of the Billing volume
Failed payment€ 3.50
Chargeback / dispute€ 15.00

As with Mollie, your salon must explicitly agree in Salonnare to these direct-debit rates before memberships via Stripe are activated.

These are Stripe's rates - not Salonnare's. Rates may change; the official Stripe pricing page is always leading.

Step 4: Verify the webhook endpoint

Salonnare configures webhooks automatically on connection - you do not need to do anything here. Should you want to verify this manually:

  1. Go to dashboard.stripe.com > Developers > Webhooks.
  2. You should see an endpoint to https://app.salonnare.com/api/billing/webhook or https://app.salonnare.com/api/payments/webhook.
  3. The status must be Enabled.

Troubleshooting

"Complete onboarding" stays

Cause: KYC not fully complete. One or more documents are missing or rejected, or Stripe has not enabled you to receive payments yet.

Solution:

  1. Click the Complete onboarding button on the Stripe card → you go straight to Stripe's onboarding page.
  2. Stripe shows which documents are missing (marked in red).
  3. Upload + submit.
  4. The status in Salonnare changes to Connected once Stripe enables your account.

"Account capabilities not enabled"

Cause: Stripe has not activated the "transfers" or "card_payments" capability for your account yet.

Solution: usually resolved by completing KYC. If KYC is already green and this still occurs, contact Stripe support.

iDEAL missing in checkout

Activate iDEAL manually in dashboard.stripe.com > Settings > Payment methods. It is sometimes off by default for Dutch accounts.
