Create and activate your Mollie account

Step-by-step guide to create your Mollie account, activate in-person payments, and connect Salonnare for iDEAL, credit card and card payments.

Create and activate your Mollie account

With Mollie you can accept iDEAL, credit card, Bancontact, Klarna and card payments through the Mollie Terminal or Tap to Pay. This article walks you through every step - both on Mollie's side and in Salonnare.

Step 1: Create a Mollie account

  1. Go to mollie.com/nl and click Create account.
  2. Enter your salon details:
    • Company name: as registered with the Chamber of Commerce
    • Chamber of Commerce number: required for business accounts
    • VAT number: optional but speeds up verification
    • IBAN: the account number where payouts are deposited
  3. Confirm your email address using the link Mollie sends you.
  4. Upload identification (a copy of your ID or passport) for the KYC verification.

Expected waiting time: 1-3 business days for account verification.

Step 2: Activate online payment methods

For online payments (iDEAL, credit card, Bancontact, Klarna):

  1. Log in to my.mollie.com.
  2. Go to My organization > Products (or Payment methods).
  3. Activate each method you want to offer:
    • iDEAL - essential for Dutch customers
    • Card / Credit card - international customers
    • Bancontact - Belgian customers
    • Klarna - Pay Later / Pay in 3 instalments
  4. Mollie verifies your business details and activates within 1-2 business days.

Good to know: the methods you enable here automatically appear afterwards on every payment page in Salonnare - so for online payments, deposits, the point of sale (POS) and memberships. So enable at least iDEAL, Bancontact and credit card for the widest coverage. Other methods (Klarna, etc.) are optional.

Recurring payments for memberships

For memberships with a fixed amount per period (recurring direct debit), Mollie uses a SEPA Direct Debit mandate:

  1. The customer pays the first time with a regular method (for example iDEAL or credit card). That first payment automatically sets up the direct debit mandate.
  2. After that, Mollie collects the recurring amounts via SEPA Direct Debit - the customer doesn't have to do anything else.

Recurring payments are normally enabled by default at Mollie once your account is verified. Not sure whether it's active on your account? Just get in touch with Mollie support.

Mollie direct debit rates for memberships

These are the rates Mollie charges your salon once you use memberships with automatic direct debit. You pay them on top of the regular transaction rates:

Cost itemMollie rate
SEPA Direct Debit (batch)€ 0.35
SEPA Direct Debit (single)€ 0.35
Refund€ 0.25
Chargeback€ 10.00
Failed direct debit attempt€ 0.95
Report of an unauthorised direct debit€ 65.00

Because memberships involve extra costs, your salon must explicitly agree to these in Salonnare before memberships can be activated. That way you know in advance which direct debit rates Mollie may charge.

These are Mollie's rates - not Salonnare's. Rates may change; the official Mollie pricing page is always leading.

Step 3: Activate in-person payments (POS)

This is a separate approval at Mollie - without it you can't process card payments through Salonnare:

  1. In the Mollie dashboard, go to Products > In-person payments (or Point of sale / Terminals).
  2. Click Activate or Apply.
  3. Mollie asks for extra information:
    • Type of business (beauty/hair salon)
    • Expected volume (transactions per month)
    • Type of devices (Mollie Terminal or Tap to Pay on your Android phone)
  4. Mollie approves within 2-5 business days.

Important: if this step is not completed, you'll get an error message every time you attempt a card payment in Salonnare. Your salon profile MUST have the pointofsale method enabled.

Ordering a Mollie Terminal or Tap to Pay

  • Physical Mollie Terminal: order via mollie.com/nl/pinautomaat. Delivery 5-7 business days.
  • Tap to Pay (Android phone): free app - download "Tap to Pay" from Google Play and log in with your Mollie account. Works on Android 11+ with NFC.

Tip: the Mollie Tap app is free and works great. With the Mollie Tap app you turn a modern smartphone with NFC into a full card terminal - you need no extra hardware or physical terminal at all. The app itself is free to use; you only pay the normal transaction fee per card payment. In practice, Tap to Pay works really well together with Salonnare for card payments at the counter: connect it, hold the phone close and you're done. Read more about Tap to Pay at mollie.com.

Step 4: Connect Salonnare to Mollie

  1. Log in to your salon dashboard in Salonnare.
  2. Go to Settings > Connect payments.
  3. Under Mollie > Online payments, click Connect.
  4. Read and accept the platform fee disclosure (1.5% with a €0.50 minimum per transaction).
  5. You'll be redirected to Mollie. Important: log in with YOUR own Mollie account - not with a shared or platform account.
  6. Authorize access.
  7. You return to the Salonnare settings page. The status shows Connected with your organization name.

For card payments at the point of sale

After connecting, a button appears under Mollie Terminal to choose your activated terminals. Select the terminal you use in the salon.

Already connected before the memberships expansion? Reconnect

Did you connect Mollie before memberships became available? Then your connection is missing the extra permissions needed for recurring payments (customers, subscriptions and direct debit mandates). Without those permissions, completing a membership signup fails.

Solution: reconnect Mollie once so you grant the extra permissions:

  1. Go to Settings > Connect payments > Mollie.
  2. Click Disconnect and then Connect again.
  3. Authorize access again at Mollie.

After this, memberships with automatic direct debit work without problems.

Troubleshooting

"Routing not allowed for provided organization" on every card payment

Cause: our platform does not yet have "Mollie Connect for Platforms" approval (required for the platform fee split). This is on Salonnare's side, not your account.

Solution: you don't have to do anything. We have requested the approval from Mollie and will activate the routing as soon as it comes through.

"Method pointofsale is not enabled" or payments are declined

Cause: step 3 (activate in-person payments) has not been completed yet.

Solution: log in to my.mollie.com → Products → activate Point of sale. Call Mollie support on +31 20 247 47 60 if the option is not visible.

"Mollie connection points to the platform account instead of your own salon"

Cause: you accidentally logged in with a Mollie account linked to our platform organization instead of your own salon account.

Solution:

  1. Go to Settings > Connect payments > Mollie.
  2. Click Disconnect. This also revokes your session at Mollie.
  3. Open an incognito window (otherwise Mollie keeps caching your login details).
  4. In Salonnare, click Connect again.
  5. Log in with your OWN Mollie account.

No iDEAL available in checkout

Wait until Mollie has verified your organization (1-2 business days after account creation). Check the status at my.mollie.com → My organization.
